Overview
The upcoming ICMA Sustainable Finance webinar series will delve into the emerging market of Sovereign Sustainability-Linked Bonds (SLBs) on July 2, 2025. Scheduled for 15:00 CET / 14:00 GMT, this one-hour session will provide a platform for discussing the unique challenges and opportunities that SLBs present for sovereign issuers.
Sovereign SLBs are increasingly recognized as significant transactions that allow investors to evaluate government commitments to managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks, particularly in relation to climate change. These bonds integrate voluntary commitments, such as those outlined in the Paris Agreement, into a debt structure, enhancing accountability across government cycles.
Key topics will include the appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) for sovereign SLBs, relevant benchmarks, and how investors can assess various structures, including step-downs. The discussion will be moderated by industry experts, including Samuel Mary from PIMCO and Paul O'Connor from J.P. Morgan, alongside guest panellists from the World Bank and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uruguay.
This interactive webinar invites participants to engage directly with the panellists, making it an excellent opportunity for market participants to gain insights and ask questions. For those unable to attend live, registration will allow access to a recording of the session.
