Core Features
Carbon4 Finance organizes its data offering around three principal methodologies. They can be used independently or combined, with data available through its analytics platform and for integration into customers’ own systems.
Carbon Impact Analytics (CIA): The CIA database evaluates companies and sovereigns against the transition to a low-carbon economy. Its bottom-up methodology recalculates Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, considers the full value chain and incorporates avoided emissions and forward-looking performance. The resulting metrics support carbon-footprint analysis, issuer comparison, portfolio alignment and assessment of transition-related performance.
Climate Risk Impact Screening (CRIS): CRIS assesses companies and portfolios for physical climate risk by combining the geographic distribution of economic activity with sector-specific vulnerability. It covers seven direct climate hazards and nine aggravating factors across more than 210 countries, using three IPCC scenarios and 2050 and 2100 time horizons.
Biodiversity Impact Analytics – Global Biodiversity Score (BIA-GBS): BIA-GBS measures companies’, sovereigns’ and portfolios’ impacts on biodiversity and their dependencies on ecosystem services. It enables investors to identify biodiversity hotspots and incorporate nature-related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities into investment and engagement decisions.
Green Bonds Database: Covers 900+ green bonds, providing bond-level analysis of financed projects alongside assessment of the issuer. Indicators include induced emissions, emissions savings, transparency and the Carbon Impact Ratio, with results designed for aggregation at portfolio level.
Closing Insights
Carbon4 Finance was created in 2016 as the financial data specialist within Carbone 4 Group, bringing the group’s climate expertise into methodologies and datasets designed specifically for investors and financial institutions. Its offering has since broadened from carbon and transition risk analysis to include physical climate risks and biodiversity impacts and dependencies. In addition to these datasets, Carbon4 Finance provides reporting and analysis services, including turnkey SFDR PAI, CSRD and bespoke climate reporting, with portfolio aggregation, support for private assets and audit-ready outputs.
For organizations with more specific requirements, Carbon4 Finance offers data integration and tailored analysis and invites prospective users to request a demonstration or sample to explore how its climate and biodiversity datasets could fit their portfolios, risk systems or investment processes.
