Fleet Electrification Planning

Onye Dike
Updated by Onye Dike on October 3rd, 2026
ZERO is a fleet decarbonization planning platform developed by UK-based Dynamon for organizations evaluating a transition from internal-combustion vehicles to electric vehicles or other low-carbon alternatives. Rather than relying on generic vehicle specifications, it combines fleet telematics or routing data with Dynamon’s EV performance data to model how alternative vehicles would perform under existing duty cycles. This makes ZERO particularly relevant before major vehicle, charging and grid investments are made. Fleet operators, consultants and other transport organizations can use it to determine which vehicles can electrify, select suitable replacements, design charging infrastructure and understand the operational and financial consequences of different transition strategies.

Core Features

ZERO focuses on the interdependent decisions involved in fleet electrification: vehicles, routes, batteries, charging infrastructure, electricity demand and cost. Its modelling allows these factors to be assessed together rather than treating vehicle procurement and charging infrastructure as separate exercises. Key capabilities include:

  • EV Feasibility Analysis: Uses historical telematics or routing data to determine whether available EVs can complete existing fleet duty cycles, including consideration of journey patterns, dwell times and charging opportunities.

  • Vehicle & Battery Selection: Compares available electric vehicles and low-carbon alternatives and helps determine suitable vehicle and battery specifications, reducing the risk of buying more battery capacity than operations require.

  • Charging Infrastructure Planning: Models the number, location and power of chargers required to support an electrified fleet, including opportunities for charger sharing and managed charging.

  • Depot Energy & Grid Analysis: Forecasts charging electricity demand by depot and time of day, helping organizations understand peak demand and potential grid requirements before infrastructure is installed.

  • Cost & TCO Analysis: Assesses the financial implications of battery-electric and low-carbon vehicles against conventional vehicles, incorporating vehicle and charging decisions into transition planning.

  • Scenario & Transition Planning: Allows users to test different vehicles, charging powers and infrastructure configurations, supporting phased electrification plans as vehicle availability, costs and operational requirements change.

Closing Insights

ZERO has been applied to fleets with substantially different operating profiles. Transport for London used it to analyse 12 months of telematics across 356 sites, identifying EV suitability and charging requirements for its service fleet; modelling showed that managed charging could reduce the required chargers across 36 primary sites from 227 to 107. Asda used ZERO to analyse operations at 17 depots and assess where its home-delivery vehicles could be electrified while avoiding unnecessary vehicle and infrastructure expenditure. More recently, Royal Mail has used ZERO for both last-mile vans and 7.5-tonne mail-centre vehicles, including vehicle feasibility, charging-power selection and depot energy planning.

ZERO therefore sits primarily upstream of fleet electrification investment: its purpose is to establish what is operationally feasible and what vehicles, batteries, chargers and grid capacity are actually required before capital is committed. Dynamon currently offers ZERO-based fleet decarbonization analysis from £4,990, while prospective users can also try its free TCO calculator before requesting a demonstration or project-specific analysis.
