Summary
The James Hutton Institute is a Scotland-based research organisation focused on land, crops, water, soils, biodiversity, climate change and sustainable food systems. It was formed in 2011 through the merger of the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and the Scottish Crop Research Institute. The institute conducts interdisciplinary science for government, industry and international partners, including crop resilience, regenerative agriculture, environmental management, natural capital and climate adaptation. In the Ribena supply chain context, it is relevant because of its long-running research partnership with Suntory to breed blackcurrant varieties better adapted to changing climate conditions. The institute is a Scottish charitable company limited by guarantee.
