Carbon Sequestration
Carbon sequestration is the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide to mitigate or defer global warming. This can be achieved through natural processes, such as afforestation, reforestation, and soil management, or through technological solutions like carbon capture and storage (CCS). By sequestering carbon, we can reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, helping to stabilize the climate.
Natural carbon sequestration involves enhancing the ability of ecosystems to absorb CO2, such as by restoring degraded lands or improving agricultural practices. Technological carbon sequestration captures CO2 emissions from industrial sources and stores them underground or uses them in products. Both approaches are crucial for achieving net-zero emissions and mitigating climate change impacts.
