Green Climate Fund (GCF)

The Green Climate Fund is the world’s largest dedicated climate finance mechanism, created to support developing countries in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening their resilience to climate impacts. Established under the UNFCCC, the GCF mobilises public and private finance to fund low-carbon technologies, climate adaptation projects, capacity building and climate-resilient development. It operates through accredited entities, including national agencies, international banks and NGOs. The Fund plays a key role in global climate diplomacy by enabling countries to access grants, concessional loans and blended finance. Its portfolio covers renewable energy, sustainable transport, ecosystem restoration, early warning systems and community-based adaptation.
