Government of Italy

The Government of Italy is the executive branch of the Italian Republic, operating under the 1948 Constitution. It functions within a parliamentary representative democratic framework, where the Council of Ministers, headed by the Prime Minister, holds executive power. The President of the Republic appoints the Prime Minister and formally oversees the government’s formation. Legislative power is shared between the government and a bicameral Parliament composed of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The judiciary is independent. The Italian government administers national policy, international relations, public administration, and the execution of laws.
