Core Features
FuelFWD is built specifically around renewable fuel compliance. Its workflow connects document intake, validation, mass balancing, optimization, document generation and reporting so that compliance information remains linked as fuel moves through the supply chain. Its features include:
AI Document Extraction: AI-powered OCR and LLM-based extraction converts Proofs of Sustainability (PoS), Sustainability Declarations, invoices, contracts, Bills of Lading and other documents into structured data for validation and processing.
Automated Mass Balancing: FuelFWD manages mass balances across multiple entities, certification schemes and reporting periods, including allocation, carry-over and chain-of-custody records.
Scheme Validation: Incoming information can be checked against applicable certification rules and counterparty data. FuelFWD currently lists support for ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS, REDcert, REDcert² and 2BSvs.
GHG/CI Optimization: Traders can compare available batches against contracted GHG-saving or carbon-intensity requirements. This helps avoid allocating a higher-performing certificate to a transaction that requires a lower GHG saving, preserving higher-value inventory for other trades.
Certificate Position Management: The platform tracks certified volumes earned, sold and remaining across schemes, countries and channels, including certificate expiries.
Compliance Document Generation: Validated data can be used to create outgoing PoS, Sustainability Declarations and other compliance documents. FuelFWD also supports specialized workflows such as Nabisy submissions, Italian National Scheme reporting and BDN-to-PoS documentation for bunker deliveries.
Closing Insights
FuelFWD is a trade name of HydroTwin B.V. and was founded in Rotterdam in 2023 by Menno van der Zalm and Vincent Tribou. Van der Zalm brought around 15 years of sustainability experience in energy and chemicals, while Tribou's background included financing commodity trades in banking. FuelFWD is backed by InnovationQuarter and partially financed by the EU's Just Transition Fund.
Its specialization is increasingly reflected in role-specific applications. For example, SAF operators can track certified fuel positions by airport and tank, while bunker operators can connect biofuel components to Bunker Delivery Notes and outgoing PoS. FuelFWD has also highlighted work with Titan around the documentation and traceability required for bio-LNG bunkering.
Base, Growth and Scale plans currently cost €1,000, €2,500 and €5,000 per month, respectively, while Enterprise pricing is customized.
