Core Features

Estuaire operates by a flight-by-flight, activity-based approach. Its models combine actual ADS-B flight trajectories with aircraft and engine characteristics, meteorological information, payload data, and other operational variables. This allows environmental performance to reflect how individual flights were actually operated. Its features include:

  • Flight-level CO₂ accounting: Calculates in-flight emissions using 4D trajectories, wind, aircraft mass, detours, holding patterns, and aircraft characteristics, while ground analysis covers LTO cycles and APU emissions.

  • Non-CO₂ impact analysis: Assesses NOx and persistent contrails, combining flight trajectories with meteorological and aircraft-performance data to examine climate effects beyond CO₂.

  • Contrail mitigation: Identifies high-impact flights and analyzes adjustments to flight levels that could avoid contrail-forming atmospheric regions while accounting for fuel-burn trade-offs.

  • Lifecycle impact assessment: Incorporates indirect impacts including fuel production and SAF sourcing, aircraft manufacturing and end-of-life recycling, and airport ground operations.

  • Carbon intensity benchmarking: Enables users to examine and compare the carbon intensities of aircraft, airlines, and lessors, with filters covering variables such as aircraft, engines, operators, and routes.

  • Climate Impact API: Provides CO₂ and non-CO₂ flight-impact data through a RESTful API, including passenger-level results and contrail energy forcing, for integration into external systems and reporting processes.

Closing Insights

Estuaire was co-founded in Paris by brothers Maxime and Nicolas Meijers, both pilots, with Maxime serving as CEO and Nicolas as CTO. In 2024, Estuaire raised €2.2 million in a seed round led by Satgana, with participation from Safran Corporate Ventures, XAnge, and AFI Ventures. Recent deployments on the platform includes Sweden's VTI on the CO₂ and non-CO₂ impacts of Swedish air travel, Jackson Hole Airport on flight emissions, and Air France on contrails. Its 2025 Contrail Opportunity Index, released in March 2026, analyzed 38 million flights as airlines faced EU non-CO₂ MRV requirements.
