  • Maintenance planning.

4. Resource Allocation

The Resource Allocation category considers materials, energy, and water required to build, operate, and maintain infrastructure.

5. Natural World

6. Climate and Resilience

The Climate and Resilience category evaluates emissions, climate risk, hazards, adaptation and long-term infrastructure resilience.

  • Hazard exposure.

  • Adaptive capacity.

  • Infrastructure interdependencies.

7. Independent verification

ISI’s independent, third-party project verification and awards program confirms whether a project meets Envision sustainability criteria.

Project teams should prepare:

  • Credit documentation.

  • Design and construction records.

  • Calculations.

  • Plans and drawings.

  • Owner commitments.

  • Evidence of stakeholder engagement.

  • Verification responses.

Important Deadlines

Envision is voluntary, so there is no universal legal deadline.

Important timing points:

  • Verification timing depends on project registration, documentation, design phase, construction phase, and ISI review.

  • Envision is most effective when integrated early in project planning.

  • ISI and the Envision Review Board have initiated development of Envision v4, to publish it in 2028.

Envision does not impose statutory penalties.

If Envision is tied to procurement, finance, grants or project agreements, failure may create commercial consequences.

5. Performance risk

Weak climate resilience, poor stakeholder engagement or inadequate resource management can create long-term infrastructure risks.
