Introduction

The ClimatePartner Certified Label is a voluntary certification and communication tool developed by ClimatePartner to demonstrate a company’s climate action efforts. It is awarded to companies, products, or services that follow a structured process of measuring, reducing, and addressing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The label is based on a five-step framework: emissions calculation, reduction target setting, implementation of reduction measures, financing of climate projects, and transparent communication. A distinguishing feature is the Climate ID page, which provides public traceability of a product’s or company’s emissions and climate actions. In addition to its standalone use, the label is also recognised within broader sustainability ecosystems, particularly in e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.

Applying for ClimatePartner Certification

To obtain the ClimatePartner Certified Label, organisations must follow a structured process aligned with the ClimatePartner Protocol and widely used standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

  • Calculate emissions - Companies quantify their carbon footprint at either corporate or product level, identifying key emission sources.

  • Set reduction targets -Organisations define measurable targets to reduce emissions over time.

  • Implement reduction measures - Actions are taken to reduce emissions, such as improving energy efficiency or switching to renewable energy.

  • Finance climate projects -Unavoidable emissions are addressed through contributions to certified climate projects.

  • Communicate transparently -ClimatePartner provides a label and a Climate ID page detailing emissions, reduction actions, and supported projects.

Once these steps are completed, certified entities can use the ClimatePartner label in their communications and product disclosures.

Current Status & Outlook

The ClimatePartner Certified Label represents an evolution from earlier carbon neutrality labels, with stricter requirements around emissions reduction and transparency. The label is used by thousands of companies globally and is particularly established in European markets. It is also integrated into broader ecosystems, such as eligibility for programmes like Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly initiative. Looking ahead, the certification is adapting to regulatory developments including the EU’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (EmpCo) directive, which increases scrutiny on environmental claims and requires verifiable evidence.
