New York City Council

The New York City Council is the legislative branch of New York City's government, representing the city's 51 council districts through directly elected members. Operating under the New York City Charter, it enacts local laws, approves the city's budget, oversees municipal agencies, and makes decisions on land use and zoning. The Council also conducts hearings, investigations, and policy reviews across areas including housing, transportation, public safety, climate, and public health.
