Health Care Without Harm (HCWH)

Co-founded in 1996 by environmental health advocate Gary Cohen, Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) is an international nonprofit organization. It works with hospitals, healthcare systems, medical professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders to reduce the healthcare sector’s environmental impact. Its activities cover healthcare decarbonization, sustainable procurement, waste management, hazardous chemicals and other areas. HCWH operates through regional teams and international partnerships, including its affiliated Practice Greenhealth network and Global Green and Healthy Hospitals initiative, which connects healthcare institutions pursuing environmental sustainability across the world.
