Summary

The California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) is a California state commission established in 1953 and housed within the Department of General Services under the Government Operations Agency. It oversees the adoption, approval and publication of the California Building Standards Code (Title 24) and coordinates building-code development across state agencies. CBSC also develops standards for state-owned buildings and nonresidential occupancies not assigned to another agency. It played a central role in developing CALGreen, California’s mandatory green building code, which addresses areas including resource efficiency, water conservation and environmental quality.
