CalRecycle (California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery)

CalRecycle (the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery) is the California state government agency responsible for administering the state's recycling, waste management, and circular economy programmes. Operating within the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), it develops and enforces policies that promote waste reduction, resource recovery, environmental protection, and climate action. CalRecycle oversees a broad portfolio of initiatives, including beverage container recycling, organics management, product stewardship, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programmes for products such as carpets, mattresses, paint, batteries, packaging, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. It also administers grants, business assistance, compliance, permitting, and data reporting systems that support California's transition to a circular economy.
