Aldi UK is the British operation of the international discount supermarket business Aldi and one of the major grocery retailers operating in the United Kingdom. Its business model focuses on a comparatively limited product range, private-label products and cost-efficient store operations. Alongside its retail activities, Aldi UK has developed environmental programmes covering packaging, plastics, food waste, energy efficiency, responsible sourcing and supply chain impacts. Packaging circularity has become a significant area of activity, including efforts to reduce unnecessary materials, improve recyclability and test technologies capable of generating better information about what happens to packaging after use. In 2026, Aldi partnered with Arla Foods, Polytag, Sun Chemical and Saica Flex on a UK trial using invisible ultraviolet identifiers on milk bottle labels to track packaging through recycling infrastructure.
