Plantation polygons

Plantation polygons are digital geographic boundaries that map the exact area of a plantation or agricultural plot using GPS coordinates. Instead of recording only a single location point, a polygon outlines the full perimeter of the land where a commodity such as cocoa, coffee or palm oil is produced. Companies can compare these mapped areas with satellite imagery, forest-cover databases and land-use records to assess risks including deforestation, illegal expansion and sourcing from protected areas. Plantation polygons also strengthen supply chain traceability by linking products to specific production sites and supporting due diligence under regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation. Their reliability depends on accurate field mapping, updated data and verification of land ownership and supplier records.
