Overview

The intensive course titled "Reducing methane emissions in ruminants through nutrition: measuring, management and accounting options" is designed for senior policy advisors, public decision-makers, private sector executives, and academics. Scheduled for October 27-29, 2026, at the Estación Experimental del Zaidín (CSIC) in Granada, Spain, this hybrid workshop aims to equip participants with the necessary technical literacy for effective environmental governance and corporate strategy.

Course Objectives

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of global methane emissions from ruminants and the relevance of animal nutrition in mitigating these emissions. The course will cover:

• Nutritional strategies to reduce methane emissions, focusing on specific feedstuffs.
• The importance of feed additives and their innovative pathways.
• Skills for accounting and modeling methane emissions reductions, including trade-offs with other carbon sources linked to livestock farming.

Practical Approach

The course emphasizes hands-on exposure to measurement technologies and modeling tools, illustrated by real cases from various livestock production systems. Lectures will be complemented by applied examples and practical sessions, where participants will use software to model emissions at farm and national levels. The working language will be English, and there are limited places available for both face-to-face and online participation.
