Event Overview

The designTimber 2027 series features a webinar focused on Tesco's innovative Harrogate concept store, a flagship low-carbon superstore. This event will delve into how engineered timber can effectively meet the demands of large-format supermarkets.

The store, covering 3,651 mยฒ, showcases a highly efficient timber structure, characterized by striking Y-shaped glulam columns and long-span timber trusses. These design elements create bright, flexible retail spaces with minimal internal supports. The use of offsite manufacturing techniques has significantly reduced waste and enhanced construction efficiency. Additionally, the building's bolted connections facilitate disassembly and reconfiguration, promoting sustainability at the end of its lifecycle. Wrapped in UK-grown Brimstone poplar cladding, the store presents a warm, natural exterior that complements its timber framework.

Speakers

The webinar will feature insights from:

  • Martin Cregeen, Technical Director at S+SA Architects
  • Steve Peet, Associate Director at Engenuiti
  • Alex Brocke, Pre-Construction Manager at B&K Hybrid Solutions

This free event will take place online via Zoom on April 14, 2027, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interested participants can register through the Timber Development UK portal. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about sustainable practices in retail construction.
