10th International Nitrogen Conference (N2026)

Overview

N2026 is the tenth edition of the International Nitrogen Conference and is organised by the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI), the N2026 Organizing Committee and Japan’s Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN), with the Science Council of Japan listed as a planned organiser. The conference takes a deliberately broad approach to the “nitrogen issue”: reactive nitrogen is essential to food production and industrial activity, but its losses to the environment contribute to climate change, air and water pollution, eutrophication, acidification and other environmental pressures.

The programme covers nitrogen management across areas including:

• Agriculture and soil health

• Industry and energy

• Water and atmospheric environments

• Human health and ecosystem impacts

• Economic and social aspects of nitrogen management

• Science-policy engagement

• Global and cross-sectoral approaches

• Communication, culture and education

The programme includes keynote presentations, oral and poster sessions, a corporate exhibition, an international symposium and multi-stakeholder roundtables. A major objective is to bring different stakeholder groups together to co-create the Kyoto Declaration, envisioned as a collective roadmap for sustainable nitrogen management.

Attendance

N2026 offers both in-person participation in Kyoto and an e-poster option for researchers unable to travel. Regular in-person fees range from JPY 40,000 for students to JPY 110,000 for international participants, with reduced rates for participants from UN-designated Least Developed Countries.
