Our principle

Cut through the green tape

We don't push agendas. At Net Zero Compare, we cut through the hype and fear to deliver the straightforward facts you need for making informed decisions on green products and services. Whether motivated by compliance, customer demands, or a real passion for the environment, you’re welcome here. We provide reliable information—why you seek it is not our concern.

Allbirds has introduced a net zero carbon shoe, designed using carbon-negative materials and regenerative farming practices. A limited edition of 500 pairs will be available starting February 6 in select cities: New York, London, Dubai, Tokyo, and Seoul.

Sustainable Materials

The shoe is made with regenerative wool sourced from New Zealand’s Lake Hawea Station, a farm that absorbs more carbon than it emits. The farm uses reforestation, improved pasture species, and carbon sequestration techniques to reduce its environmental impact.

Allbirds has taken a minimalist design approach, maximizing the use of this wool. Jamie McLellan, an Allbirds designer, noted that the shoe prioritizes simplicity, with the wool wrapping both the upper and midsole.

Carbon Accounting

Allbirds measured the shoe's carbon footprint with The New Zealand Merino Company. Their Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Tool, which includes on-farm carbon sequestration, provides a more complete picture of emissions. The shoe achieves net zero carbon emissions, a notable improvement over the average sneaker, which produces 14 kg CO₂e.

Sharing Sustainability Insights

Allbirds has made its sustainability toolkit publicly available to encourage other brands to adopt similar practices. The toolkit includes:

  • Bio-based midsole foams

  • Methane-capture bioplastics

  • Sugarcane-derived, carbon-negative Green PE packaging

  • Regenerative material strategies

“We want to make sustainable design more accessible,” said Aileen Lerch, Director of Sustainability at Allbirds.

Availability and Pricing

The shoe will be sold exclusively in-store at the following locations:

  • New York: February 6 at Allbirds SoHo

  • London: February 6 at Covent Garden & Selfridges

  • Dubai: February 7 at Dubai Mall

  • Seoul: April 1 at Parnas Mall

  • Tokyo: Spring 2025 at Marunouchi

Available in unisex sizes 6-11 for USD 200.
