The FuelEU Quickscan from Sustainable Ships is a maritime compliance calculator for shipowners, operators, fleet managers and other professionals affected by the EU’s FuelEU Maritime Regulation. FuelEU limits the greenhouse-gas intensity of energy used onboard ships, with increasingly stringent targets through 2050 and financial penalties for non-compliance. FuelEU calculations require more than simply measuring CO₂ emissions. The regulation considers the well-to-wake greenhouse-gas intensity of energy, meaning emissions associated with producing and supplying a fuel as well as using it onboard. The FuelEU Quickscan brings the necessary regulatory values and calculations into a single model.

The FuelEU Quickscan addresses a practical challenge created by FuelEU Maritime: different fuels can produce very different compliance outcomes even when they provide the same amount of energy to a ship. FuelEU evaluates fuels on a well-to-wake basis, so their production and supply emissions matter alongside emissions produced onboard. The regulation began applying in 2025 with a 2% reduction requirement, tightening to 6% in 2030, 14.5% in 2035 and progressively further thereafter.
