Carbon Management for Industrial Companies

Onye Dike
Updated by Onye Dike on September 12th, 2026
OPTENDA CO₂ Monitor is a carbon management platform designed primarily for industrial and commercial companies that want to calculate emissions and turn the results into practical reduction plans. It supports both Corporate Carbon Footprints (CCFs) and Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) according to the GHG Protocol. Beyond running an emissions inventory, the software allows users to model reduction measures and see how much each would contribute toward a target. It is particularly relevant to SMEs seeking a structured alternative to spreadsheet-based carbon accounting.

Core Features

OPTENDA CO₂ Monitor covers the process from collecting emissions data through calculating footprints and planning reductions. It can operate independently or alongside OPTENDA's Energy Monitor where companies want to connect carbon management more closely with operational energy data.

  • Corporate and Product Carbon Footprints: Users can create company-wide CCFs as well as multiple PCFs. Product calculations consider greenhouse-gas emissions across the product lifecycle, while footprints can be updated as new reporting periods or data become available.

  • Emission Factor Management: CO₂ Monitor is connected to DEFRA and ProBas, the latter operated by Germany's Federal Environment Agency, helping users access current emission factors. Organizations can also integrate their own databases and factors.

  • Multi-Site and Recurring Footprints: Carbon footprints can be created for an entire company, individual sites or multiple locations. Users determine the reporting frequency, allowing calculations to be performed monthly, quarterly, annually or as otherwise required.

  • Reduction Scenarios: Users can define emissions-reduction measures and calculate the expected CO₂ savings from each. The software shows how individual measures contribute toward the overall target, making it possible to identify when planned actions are insufficient and additional reductions are required.

  • Multilingual: CO₂ Monitor is currently available in German, English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese.

Closing Insights

CO₂ Monitor reflects OPTENDA's strong orientation toward industrial and SME users, where emissions management can overlap substantially with energy efficiency. This relationship with energy management is important. A conventional carbon accounting system can show that purchased electricity or fuel represents a significant emissions source; OPTENDA can additionally combine CO₂ Monitor with its Energy Monitor to examine the underlying energy consumption. The two applications remain usable independently but can operate through the same system when deployed together. CO₂ Monitor is currently available in German, English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese. Prospective users can request a free two-week trial.
