The NEXQT platform approach combines geographic intelligence, climate science, data science and AI to translate territorial activity data into decision-support information. Key capabilities include:
Automated Territorial Data Collection: NEXQT continuously collects, processes and validates more than 70 activity-data sources, including public open data, API-accessible business data and GPS systems.
Monthly Energy-Carbon Balance: Municipal-level energy and GHG indicators are updated monthly, providing authorities with a more frequently refreshed picture of their decarbonization trajectory. Data covers housing, tertiary buildings, road traffic, industry and agriculture.
High-Resolution Carbon Mapping: The Carto Explorer enables users to investigate energy consumption and carbon emissions at municipality, neighborhood and individual-address level using criteria such as energy source, building characteristics and road-transport type.
AI-Powered Data Processing: NEXQT applies data-science and AI techniques including geo-matching, gap-filling and pattern detection to consolidate disparate territorial datasets and make them usable at fine geographic scales.
Project Impact Measurement: Authorities can assess the emissions effects of individual interventions rather than relying only on changes in the overall city inventory. In Paris, NEXQT and HERE Technologies continuously analyze traffic and associated CO₂ emissions across approximately 1,700 km of roads.
No Local Sensor Deployment: NEXQT is designed to operate without municipalities installing a dedicated sensor network. Its existing data infrastructure can be deployed in approximately four to six weeks, with initial user training included.
Closing Insights
NEXQT was founded in 2021 by Fouzi Benkhelifa, Phil DeCola, Philippe Ciais and Nicolas Megel, combining expertise in local planning, carbon science and AI. Paris and Los Angeles were early pilot territories for its City Climate Intelligence approach, followed by projects with the Greater Paris Metropolis and Copenhagen through the European AI4Cities programme. NEXQT raised funding from the Grantham Foundation in 2023 and began commercial deployment in 2024. By 2025, it was monitoring more than four million tonnes of CO₂e across participating territories and had expanded into rural municipalities and Luxembourg.
More recently, NEXQT achieved Sustainable Digital Level 1 certification in March 2026 and deployed its platform in Saint-Cloud to support data-driven sustainable mobility. Its listing in France’s UGAP public procurement catalogue also gives eligible public bodies a direct procurement route. Combined with training and ongoing support, NEXQT offers municipalities a way to move beyond infrequent citywide inventories toward geographically detailed, regularly updated emissions data that can also measure the impact of individual climate interventions.
