IBA NetZero draws on IBA’s vast aircraft, fleet and flight intelligence to address forward-looking decarbonization and aviation finance requirements. Its main capabilities include:
Fleet and portfolio analysis: Users can access emissions information at airline, aircraft, fleet and portfolio level, making the platform applicable to both operators and organizations financing aviation assets.
Net-zero forecasting: Models the emissions implications of future fleet plans and allows users to define CO₂ targets through 2050.
Mitigation scenarios: Users can build emissions-mitigation scenarios and assess their financial implications, linking decarbonization choices with future costs and risks.
Scope 3 reporting: The NetZero Reporting module was developed specifically for Scope 3 requirements, providing metrics including well-to-wake CO₂e, fuel burn, RPK and passenger, cargo and total RTK.
Carbon-intensity benchmarking: Aircraft types, routes and regions can be compared to assess operational carbon performance, while IBA uses NetZero data to track industry metrics such as CO₂ per ASK and CO₂ per RTK.
Closing Insights
IBA launched NetZero in June 2022 as an extension of its Carbon Emissions Calculator, which had debuted the previous year. The platform reflects IBA’s wider specialization in aviation intelligence, valuations and advisory rather than a move into generic ESG software. Its early users provide useful context: AerCap, an aircraft leasing company, selected IBA’s Carbon Emissions Calculator for emissions data used in ESG reporting, while Société Générale used its modelling in connection with aircraft financing through a sustainability-linked loan.
The platform is also a qualified data provider under RMI’s Pegasus Guidelines for aviation climate-aligned finance and received the Airline Economics Sustainability Innovation Award in 2024.
