greenStruct is an online calculation platform developed by PPCD for engineers working with concrete structures. Bringing structural design, verification, resource optimization, and CO₂ assessment into the same engineering workflow, the platform is particularly relevant to structural and civil engineers designing slabs and foundations and evaluating conventional steel, fiber, or hybrid reinforcement. Users can create projects, enter calculation data, review results in real time, and generate documentation. Its practical focus is therefore not only calculating embodied carbon, but enabling engineers to examine how structural design choices affect material use and associated emissions.

Core Features

greenStruct is organized around dedicated calculation programs for different concrete structural elements. Across the suite, PPCD emphasizes calculation, verification, and optimization within the engineering design process, with relevant modules incorporating structural, geotechnical, material, and CO₂ parameters. The five main components are:

  • greenSlab: Designs ground-supported slabs using steel, fiber, or hybrid reinforcement. Results include bearing capacities, diagrams, thermal transmittance, and CO₂ emissions for comparing and optimizing designs.

  • greenStrip: Calculates strip foundations, checking both the concrete cross-section and ground or insulation bearing capacity. Material inputs include the concrete’s Global Warming Potential, bringing emissions data into the design process.

  • greenPad: Designs point and pad foundations across different geometries, soil conditions, loads, and reinforcement options. Results include CO₂ emissions, while automatic geometry optimization can reduce material use and associated emissions.

  • greenPile: Combines geotechnical pile analysis with structural verification, covering axial and lateral behavior, layered soils, load combinations, and steel and/or fiber reinforcement.

  • greenSection: Provides concrete cross-section analysis and structural evaluation, complementing the slab and foundation modules.

Closing Insights

greenStruct is developed by Danish concrete engineering company PPCD, and its functionality reflects the company's work with concrete structures and alternative reinforcement solutions. PPCD documents greenStruct’s use across a range of Danish construction projects, from residential developments and daycare facilities to warehouses and commercial buildings. Examples include the Frimærket residential development in Herlev, where greenSlab and greenPad were used, and Arla Foods’ warehouse buildings in Videbæk, where greenSlab, greenStrip and greenPad provided the structural verifications. The case portfolio shows the software being applied alongside steel, fiber and hybrid reinforcement strategies, connecting its calculation tools with PPCD’s broader focus on reducing concrete and reinforcement requirements.

greenStruct offers four paid subscription plans, starting at €99 per month, with all calculation programs and unlimited users included across the plans.
