Core Features
Geotab’s Clean Truck Check solution combines onboard diagnostics data collection, automated reporting, and fleet management tools within the MyGeotab environment, allowing fleets to monitor emissions status alongside maintenance and operational data. Its main capabilities include:
Automated CARB Reporting — Collects and submits emissions diagnostics data directly to CARB for Clean Truck Check compliance.
Continuous Emissions Monitoring — Uses continuously connected telematics devices instead of periodic manual emissions inspections.
J1939 and J1979 Protocol Support — Supports both heavy-duty diagnostic communication standards required for emissions data collection.
Integrated Fleet Diagnostics — Allows fleet managers to identify fault codes, failed tests, and maintenance issues through the MyGeotab platform.
T-Harness Installation Compatibility — Supports T-harness installation options approved under CARB’s anti-tampering requirements.
Fleet Compliance Dashboards — Provides fleet-level reporting, enrollment tracking, and compliance monitoring tools for regulated vehicles.
Closing Insights
Geotab’s Clean Truck Check solution reflects how California’s emissions rules are reshaping fleet telematics. Under CARB’s Clean Truck Check Program, heavy-duty vehicles operating in the state must regularly submit onboard emissions diagnostics data, with reporting requirements becoming more frequent over time.
Rather than requiring fleets to rely on separate inspections and testing providers, Geotab built compliance reporting into the same telematics hardware many fleets already use for vehicle diagnostics and tracking. A GO device installed in the truck continuously collects emissions and engine diagnostics data, while the MyGeotab software platform organizes and submits the required information electronically to CARB.
A recurring theme in Geotab’s materials is downtime reduction. The company estimates that taking trucks out of service for inspections and related maintenance can cost fleets hundreds of dollars per vehicle per day.
Geotab also received a CARB Executive Order allowing use of its aftermarket T-harness installations, which the company says makes it the only telematics provider with both the installation exemption and Clean Truck Check certification.
