Core Features
Climanomics combines climate projections, geospatial information, asset vulnerability models and financial analysis. Its updated methodology covers 12 physical climate hazards and four emissions scenarios, with projections extending through the 2090s.
Physical Climate Hazard Assessment: Evaluates exposure to 12 hazards, including coastal, river and rainfall flooding, drought, water stress, and heat. Analysis incorporates climate projections and location-specific environmental conditions.
Financial Impact Quantification: Estimates climate-related financial losses using asset-specific vulnerability models. Results include average annual losses, absolute and relative financial impacts, and potential consequences for operating expenses, capital expenditure and revenue.
Climate Scenario Analysis: Models four Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5), enabling users to compare potential financial risks under different climate futures across eight decades.
Asset and Portfolio Risk Assessment: Uses a library of more than 350 asset types and 1,200 impact functions to evaluate vulnerabilities across properties, industrial facilities, infrastructure and investment portfolios. Results can be aggregated from individual assets to portfolio level.
Adaptation and Risk Mitigation Analysis: Incorporates vulnerability functions reflecting adaptation measures, helping users examine how changes to asset resilience could influence estimated financial losses. This supports decisions about adaptation investments and risk mitigation priorities.
Closing Insights
Climanomics was originally developed by The Climate Service, a US climate analytics company founded in 2017 and acquired by S&P Global in January 2022. The platform received major upgrades in 2026 and went into a collaboration with Verisk to integrate catastrophe modelling data into Climanomics, improving assessments of insured and uninsured climate-related losses. Although S&P Global's broader climate analytics portfolio addresses transition risks, the current Climanomics release primarily emphasizes physical risk, with updated transition risk analysis planned.
Climanomics is subscription-based, with pricing available on request. Its financial estimates remain modelled projections rather than guaranteed future losses. Interested users should contact the company to discuss their deployment needs.
