UNEP Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions

The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, commonly known as the BRS Secretariat, supports the implementation of three global chemicals and waste treaties: the Basel Convention, the Rotterdam Convention and the Stockholm Convention. Its work covers hazardous waste, plastic waste, chemical trade, prior informed consent, persistent organic pollutants, technical assistance, compliance processes, meetings of the Conferences of the Parties and treaty coordination. Since 2013, the three secretariats have operated as a merged single Secretariat known as BRS MEAs, serving the three conventions.
