Secretaría del Medio Ambiente de la Ciudad de México (SEDEMA)

The Secretaría del Medio Ambiente de la Ciudad de México, or SEDEMA, is the environmental authority of the Government of Mexico City. It develops and implements policies covering climate change, biodiversity, air quality, conservation, waste management, circular economy, protected areas and sustainable urban development. SEDEMA also oversees environmental programs intended to protect natural assets and improve resilience across one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas. Its current strategy emphasizes ecological restoration, climate mitigation and adaptation, waste reduction and the transition toward more circular models of production and consumption. SEDEMA has a particularly important role in Chapultepec because it has jurisdiction over the conservation and sustainable management of the forest as an Area of Environmental Value.
