Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the principal environmental regulatory agency of the State of Oregon, responsible for protecting and enhancing the state's air, water, and land quality. Established in 1969 by the Oregon Legislature, the agency administers and enforces Oregon's environmental laws while also implementing delegated federal programs under statutes such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Headquartered in Portland, the agency also administers initiatives such as Oregon's Clean Fuels Program, supporting the state's transition to lower-carbon transportation.
