National Energy System Operator (NESO)

The National Energy System Operator is the independent energy system operator and planner for Great Britain. NESO is responsible for operating the electricity system and taking a whole-system approach to long-term energy planning across electricity and gas. Created following the Energy Act 2023, it builds on the former Electricity System Operator and works with government, regulators and industry to support a secure, reliable and increasingly decarbonised energy system. It is publicly owned by the UK government while operating with defined operational independence.
