Summary
The Secretaría de Economía is Mexico’s federal ministry responsible for economic, industrial, trade and investment policy. Its work includes promoting competitiveness, innovation, productive diversification, foreign and domestic investment and the integration of Mexican industries into regional and global value chains. The ministry also has responsibilities related to business regulation, standards, mining resources and international commerce. Sustainability has become increasingly relevant to its mandate as environmental requirements are incorporated into industrial and supply chain policy. Under Mexico’s 2026 General Circular Economy Law, the Secretaría de Economía is a member of the National Circular Economy System, where it works alongside SEMARNAT and other federal bodies on policies designed to extend material lifetimes, improve resource efficiency and support circular production models.
