Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, or LMSV, is the strategic venture capital arm of Liberty Mutual Insurance. Created in 2016, the unit initially launched with a $150 million mandate and now invests in early-stage businesses developing technologies relevant to the future of insurance and adjacent markets. Its focus includes insurtech, fintech, mobility, property technology and enterprise software, typically investing from seed through Series B stages. LMSV forms part of Liberty Mutual's broader Enterprise Strategy & Innovation organisation, which monitors emerging technologies and new business models. Its investment activity increasingly intersects with climate and energy technology because changes in infrastructure, industrial processes and climate risks directly influence insurance markets and risk assessment.
