LEAG (Lausitz Energie AG) is a German energy company headquartered in Cottbus, created in 2016 after Vattenfall sold its lignite operations to EPH and PPF. It mines lignite and runs several large thermal power plants, providing electricity and district heating mainly in eastern Germany. LEAG is now focusing on transformation, expanding into renewable energy, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects, while gradually phasing out coal in line with Germany’s energy transition goals by 2038.
