International Capital Market Association (ICMA)

The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) is a Swiss-based, not-for-profit global trade association for the cross-border debt securities markets, founded in 1969. As of January 2026, it claims to represent around 640 member firms (including banks, asset managers, and issuers) across 71 jurisdictions. Its core mission is to ensure resilient and efficient international capital markets. ICMA achieves this by setting industry standards for primary, secondary, and repo markets, engaging with regulators, and leading initiatives in sustainable finance and market digitalization. The organization also provides the secretariat for the influential Green Bond Principles and other key sustainable finance standards.
