Greater London Authority (GLA)

The Greater London Authority is the regional government body responsible for strategic policymaking across Greater London. Established in 2000, it comprises the Mayor of London and the London Assembly and works across areas including transport, housing, environment, planning, economic development, resilience and public safety. The GLA oversees a group of functional bodies that includes Transport for London. Transport policy is particularly important to its climate strategy, with London seeking to reduce dependence on private cars while expanding public transport, walking, cycling and zero-emission mobility. The authority also supports electric vehicle charging infrastructure and policies intended to reduce transport-related greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
