Summary
General Electric was a U.S. industrial conglomerate with a history spanning energy, aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, electrical equipment, and other technologies. Founded in 1892, GE played an important role in the development of power-generation equipment, including turbines, generators, and nuclear technologies. The company was subsequently divided into three independent publicly traded businesses: GE HealthCare, GE Vernova, and GE Aerospace. Following the completion of the separation in April 2024, General Electric Company now operates as GE Aerospace, while the former energy businesses are primarily housed within GE Vernova. As a result, historical GE nuclear and electricity-generation technologies are now more directly associated with GE Vernova and related ventures such as GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.
