Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM)

Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited, commonly known as ESCOM, is Malawi’s state-owned electricity utility. The company is responsible for procuring, transmitting, distributing and supplying electricity across the country. It also operates Malawi’s electricity system and market and performs the Single Buyer function, purchasing power from generators for delivery through the national grid. Following the restructuring of Malawi’s electricity sector, electricity generation assets were transferred to the Electricity Generation Company, while ESCOM retained responsibility for transmission, distribution and power procurement. The utility plays a central role in expanding electricity access, connecting renewable energy projects and improving the reliability and resilience of Malawi’s power network.
