BMO Climate Institute

The BMO Climate Institute is an initiative of BMO Financial Group. It was established in 2021 to act as a dedicated centre of expertise bringing together climate science, economics, policy, and finance in order to help clients and industries accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, resilient economy. The Institute supports BMO’s “Climate Ambition” (which commits the bank to help clients in decarbonization, resilience, socio-economic inclusion and biodiversity) by providing research, insights, data, frameworks and partnerships. Trough collaboration with industry, public sector and academia, the Institute produces work on real-world challenges (for example, decarbonizing residential real estate) and provides intelligence for clients on climate-related risks and opportunities. While it is part of BMO, it is positioned as a specialist internal (but outward-facing) unit linking science and finance, rather than a separate commercial bank.
