Spandex

Spandex, also known as elastane or Lycra, is a synthetic fibre made primarily from polyurethane. It is valued for its exceptional elasticity and ability to stretch several times beyond its original length before returning to its initial shape. Spandex is rarely used alone and is usually blended with fibres such as cotton, polyester or nylon to add flexibility, comfort and shape retention. It is widely used in sportswear, underwear, swimwear, medical garments and fitted clothing. However, its presence can make textile recycling more difficult because polyurethane behaves differently from other polymers during mechanical and chemical processing.
