Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO)

Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) are UK certificates that verify electricity has been generated from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro, or biomass. Administered by Ofgem, one REGO is issued for every megawatt-hour (MWh) of eligible renewable electricity produced. Energy suppliers use REGOs to support renewable electricity claims within fuel mix disclosures and green tariffs. REGOs improve transparency in electricity sourcing, although certificates can be traded separately from the physical electricity supplied. They are commonly used by businesses to support renewable energy procurement and carbon reporting strategies.
