Policymakers

Policymakers are individuals or public bodies responsible for developing, approving, implementing or reviewing policies, laws, regulations and government programmes. They may include ministers, legislators, civil servants, regulators, local authorities and advisers working within national, regional or municipal institutions. Policymakers assess economic, social and environmental priorities, consult affected stakeholders and decide how public objectives should be pursued. In the energy and sustainability sectors, their decisions can shape emissions targets, permitting systems, infrastructure investment, market incentives, environmental standards and reporting obligations. Effective policymaking requires balancing public interests, costs, technical evidence and long-term risks while ensuring that policies can be enforced and adapted as conditions change.
