Palm Oil

Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil extracted from the fruit of the oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis), primarily cultivated in tropical regions such as Indonesia and Malaysia. It is one of the most widely used and efficient vegetable oils, valued for its high yield per hectare and versatility. Palm oil is commonly found in processed foods, cosmetics, detergents, and biofuels. It exists in two main forms: crude palm oil, derived from the fruit’s flesh, and palm kernel oil, extracted from the seed. While economically important, its production has been linked to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions, making sustainable sourcing and certification key concerns in global supply chains.
