Hesperaloe

Hesperaloe is a genus of drought-tolerant flowering plants native to arid and semi-arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Although commonly called red yucca, it is not a true yucca. Hesperaloe species are adapted to hot, dry environments and can grow with relatively low water requirements, making them of interest for cultivation in water-stressed regions. Their long, fibrous leaves can be processed as a source of natural fibre for industrial applications. Kimberly-Clark has been evaluating hesperaloe as an alternative non-wood fibre for hygiene products, with the aim of diversifying raw material sources and potentially reducing reliance on forest-derived pulp.
