Event Overview

The "Skill Up Visits: Building with Biomaterials at Global Generation" workshop offers a unique opportunity for young people to engage with sustainable architecture. Participants will explore the transformation of a former brownfield site into a vibrant community garden, learning about innovative building techniques using natural materials such as mud, clay, and timber.

Workshop Activities

The day begins with a guided tour of the Triangle Site, showcasing CobBauge walls, handmade bricks, and cladding with chestnut tiles. Following the tour, attendees will have the chance to get hands-on experience by creating building elements using clay and coppiced timber, contributing directly to the ongoing projects at the site.

Additional Information

A free vegetarian lunch, with vegan options available, will be provided. Participants are encouraged to inform RIBA Learning of any dietary requirements during registration. The event is free of charge, but registration is required, ideally completed by a parent or guardian at least a week prior to the event. Accessibility measures are in place, though participants should be aware that the site is an active construction area with uneven surfaces.

Global Generation, the organizing charity, focuses on environmental education and community building, providing outdoor learning spaces for local youth and families. This workshop is part of RIBA's Skill Up programme, aimed at fostering interest in architecture and design among teenagers.
