About the Masterclass

This Masterclass is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding and practical experience in conducting real-time Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) experiments for the grid integration of offshore renewable energy systems. Participants will engage in lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, gaining expertise in designing, modeling, and executing real-time simulations using advanced devices such as real-time simulators, grid emulators, and energy storage emulators.

The event will take place at the University of Warwick, featuring access to state-of-the-art facilities, including the Renewable Integration and Smart Grid Lab. Participants will also benefit from networking opportunities and a Q&A session with the Course Director, Professor Xiaowei Zhao.

Key Topics Covered

  • Introduction to Real-Time Simulations

  • Experimental hardware-in-the-loop tests

  • Ancillary service provision of offshore renewable energies (OREs)

  • Offshore HVDC transmissions

  • Hydrogen integration

  • Artificial Intelligence applications

  • Cybersecurity considerations

Pricing and Registration

The general participant rate is £1000, which includes course materials and lunch. However, eligible Early Career Researchers can attend for free, covering only travel and accommodation expenses. Given the limited availability of places, early registration is encouraged to secure attendance at this unique educational opportunity.
