Overview

Japan's CCUS sector is moving beyond pilot projects toward commercial deployment, supported by major projects progressing toward investment decisions and the implementation of the country's GX-ETS carbon pricing framework. At the same time, Japan is expanding its role in regional carbon management through partnerships that support cross-border carbon dioxide transport and storage networks across Asia.

Against this backdrop, the Japan CCUS Summit 2026 will convene more than 600 industry stakeholders and over 80 speakers to discuss the next phase of CCUS development. The event combines a conference programme with an exhibition, creating opportunities for participants to explore emerging projects, technologies, investment opportunities, and policy developments shaping the future of carbon management. The event is designed for stakeholders across the CCUS value chain, including energy companies, industrial emitters, project developers, infrastructure providers, technology firms, financial institutions, government agencies, and policy experts.

Confirmed speakers include representatives from organizations such as JOGMEC, INPEX, BP Japan, PETRONAS CCS Ventures, Woodside Energy, PTTEP, TotalEnergies, Idemitsu Kosan, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and the GX Acceleration Agency, among many other prominent industry leaders.

Key Themes

The 2026 agenda is expected to focus on several major themes shaping the future of CCUS deployment:

  • Commercialization of carbon capture, utilization, and storage projects.

  • Investment frameworks and financing models for large-scale CCS infrastructure.

  • Development of cross-border CO₂ transport and storage networks across Asia-Pacific.

  • Industrial decarbonization strategies for hard-to-abate sectors.

  • The role of carbon pricing mechanisms, including Japan's GX-ETS.

  • CCS hubs, carbon management infrastructure, and regional collaboration.

  • Lessons from established and emerging CCUS markets in Japan, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
