Overview

Citizen Science and Remote Sensing for Forest Monitoring will showcase the outcomes of the C4C project, including tools and methodologies developed to improve forest and urban tree biomass estimation. The programme combines research presentations and panel discussions with opportunities for knowledge exchange among project partners, researchers and other stakeholders. Topics covered include:

  • Tree biomass data collection using the Tree-Quest mobile app

  • LiDAR and 3D forest data acquisition

  • Forest mapping and biomass validation

  • Citizen science for monitoring drought stress and bark beetle infestations

  • Trees outside forests in national greenhouse gas inventories

  • Climate change impacts on forest composition and timber harvesting

  • Drivers of forest biomass change

The meeting will also explore citizen science engagement in schools and opportunities for further collaboration between researchers and practitioners.

Attendance

The event will be held in person at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Seminar Room 1, BÀckerstraße 13, Vienna.
