Overview
This workshop brings together stakeholders from academia, policymaking, and civil society to discuss how EU climate and biodiversity policies affect the European economic sector. The focus will be on moving from parallel agendas to integrated delivery, emphasizing synergies, trade-offs, and implementation challenges.
Key Themes
Climate change, biodiversity loss, and the European financial sector are interconnected yet often addressed through fragmented policy frameworks. Some climate mitigation strategies can yield co-benefits for ecosystems, while others, particularly land-intensive options like bioenergy and large-scale renewable deployment, may exacerbate biodiversity loss if not carefully designed. The European financial system faces various risks due to climate change and biodiversity degradation, which remain inadequately addressed.
Objectives
The PRISMA project aims to enhance the evidence base for integrated climate and biodiversity policy by improving the representation of biodiversity, ecosystem services, and land-use dynamics. This workshop will explore how such evidence can enhance decision-making within the EU, ultimately fostering a more cohesive approach to sustainability and financial stability.
Agenda Highlights
The agenda includes check-in and lunch, welcome remarks by Heather Grabbe, and interventions from experts such as Mathijs Harmsen and Patrick von Jeetze. A moderated discussion will follow, allowing for in-depth dialogue on the workshop's themes.
